    History

    Two-hundred sixty years of combined service, dedication and community involvement; loan officers with over a 100 years of combined experience in agriculture lending --- that’s the “brand” of banking you’ll still find today at Farmers State Bank. “Your Brand of Banking” --- the one that is with you through good times and bad.

    Farmers State Bank takes pride in serving the area as an independently owned community bank since 1917. Farmers State Bank in Trenton, NE, formerly State Bank of Trenton was chartered in 1917 by Adolf Thuman. The bank has been a family tradition ever since. In 1971, Adolf’s son D. Roger Thuman took over for his dad and in 1991 Roger’s daughter Kathleen assumed leadership.

    The family bought the Farmers State Bank in Maywood, NE in 1962. Farmers State Bank was chartered in 1938 by a group of local investors, primarily farmers. They retained ownership until the Thuman family bought the bank. Since that time D. Roger Thuman, Gregg R. Thuman and currently, Kathleen Thuman have served as President.

    In December 2004, Kathleen Thuman purchased Farmers State Bank in Big Springs, NE from Frank and Wayne Kjeldgaard. The original charter for this bank was granted in January 1906 to several men from Chappel, NE. In 1916, the bank was purchased by Andreas and Carl Kjeldgaard of Brush, CO. This began 88 years of continuous ownership by the Kjeldgaard family.

    Today Farmers State Bank offers the services of a progressive financial institution while maintaining the integrity of a community bank where decisions are still made locally.
